Event description

Description

The Fountain City Teen Poetry Slam will also be offering, “The Write Stuff”, a free writing/performance workshop for area youth (ages 13 - 19) on Saturday, October 7th from 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM. This workshop will take place at the North Columbus Public Library (5689 Armour Road, 31909).

There will be snacks and refreshments for the youth in attendance. Attendees will be lead through creative writing exercises, as well as cover poetry in the realm of competition. We will discuss common habits in writing and seek to break those habits that don't enhance the poem. We will discuss voice, presentation, and writing to clearly express an idea. Students will craft a free-verse poem of their own and will be challenged to step outside of their everyday use of language. Students will also receive some awesome tips on editing existing work.

This workshop will be facilitated by Ashlee Haze, one of Atlanta’s premier performance artists. Earning the nickname “Big 30″ because of her consistency in getting a perfect score, she is one of the most auspicious poets in the sport of slam. She is a 5-time member of Java Monkey Slam Team and the current Slam Mistress. She appears in “3-Minute Activists: The Soul of Slam” a feature-length documentary that examines the lives and work of some of Atlanta’s Spoken Word Artists. Those interested in participating must RSVP (www.fountaincityslam.org) by Wednesday, October 4th to attend. Seating is limited for this workshop.
