Event description

Description

You must be a member of Wayfarers to sign up. You will then receive an email a day or two before the trip with details on meeting times and trains we're catching. Please be aware the times indicated on Eventbrite are just a rough estimate.

Join us for our first official walk of the term to the Wrekin; a 1300ft hill in Shropshire made of ancient ‘Uriconian’ volcanic rocks. However, it was/is not a volcano (sad reacts only) and legend has it that it was created by a giant who dropped a sack of earth! At the summit, there are the remains of an Iron Age hill fort, called Uriconio, which was once the capital of the Cornovii tribe. The Wrekin also has a cheese named after it: the Wrekin White.

We hope to see all Wayfarers, old and new, on the day.

What to bring:

  • Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes (that you don't mind getting muddy)
  • Lightweight trousers (definitely not jeans!)
  • Jumper and/or other layers
  • Waterproof coat and trousers
  • Packed lunch and water
  • Cash for emergencies
  • A rucksack to carry it all in
