History of Early California – Indians, Explorers, Conquistadores, Missionaries and Ranchos all leading to the California Gold Rush. Learn how these people and nations shaped the California we see today. Who was here first? Why did the foreigners come? How did California get its name? What did the Franciscan Missionaries bring and what destruction to the native people resulted? How did the Gold Rush come about?….These and more to give you a colorful perspective of our Golden State.

Bring your 4th grade enthusiasm and curiosity for a fun filled hour of photos, maps and museum artifacts

Note: This lecture will be proceeded by the Oaland Heritage Alliance's Annual Meeting which will be free. More details will be available soon.

Speaker Bio: Marilyn Rhodes, Retired History Docent, Oakland Museum of California. Retired college educator, travel leader for the Oakland Museum Natural Science Guild. Third generation Californian, UCB graduate and 60 year resident of Oakland.
