The beauty of the house show is that it creates small, intimate environments in which space is organically occupied by those telling stories (through both music and oration) and those listening. It’s a space of trust, as everyone is already friends, with none of the awkwardness that can accompany a book reading or a musical performance at a venue. The structure of the evening is also nonchalant: no hierarchy of performance, but instead, the artists taking turns between story and song, one after the other, often feeding off each other’s emotional output. There is also a time in the evening in which attendees will be asked if they want to read or perform—at past shows this has proven very rewarding. Shows on this tour will be about one and a half hours with an intermission after the first forty-five minutes. Everything low-key.
