Michael Cox, M.A., Youth Engagement and Cultural and Linguistic Competency Specialist

Michael serves as the Youth Engagement and Cultural and Linguistic Competency Specialist on the Texas System of Care initiative. Michael began his professional career with 14 years of full - time vocational ministry working with children and adolescents from all walks of life. In addition to this experience, Michael brings a wealth of expertise from his previous role as Youth Engagement Specialist for the Rural Children's Initiative of West Texas. In this role he was able to establish strong leadership and youth involvement within the community and SOC project, eventually becoming Deputy Project Director of the initiative. Michael has served as a consultant for the Georgetown University's National Technical Assistance Center for Children's Mental Health and served for two years on the planning committee for the Center's summer institutes. American Institute for Research's Technical Assistance Partnership has also contracted with Michael to train SOC communities on project development, youth involvement, and conference planning. Michael most recently served as counselor for the Student Counseilng program at Wayland Baptist University. 

Shane Whalley, LMSW, Education Coordinator of the Gender and Sexuality Center in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin

Shane Whalley is the Education Coordinator of the Gender and Sexuality Center in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin. Ze facilitates workshops for students, faculty and staff on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues, as well as on sexism, and on the concepts of power, privilege and oppression. This year ze started "Peers for Pride," a peer facilitation program where students are trained to facilitate workshops on LGBT issues. Shane is also a member of the Intergroup Dialogue teaching team. Ze received hir Masters degree in Social Work at UT, and is a licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW).Shane has been an Adjunct Faculty member at the School of Social Work since 2003. Shane has worked as a psychotherapist in several non-profits in Austin, working mostly with LGBT clients. Shane has a passion for making space for people to explore gender and sexuality.
