Women in Technology’s Young Professional Special Interest Group (WIT YP SIG) is hosting the #WITEmpowerher Summit, a half-day conference for women in the first 10-15 years of their careers seeking to advance their careers through job search or overall professional empowerment. Sessions feature experts from tech start-up Pymetrics, Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Rent the Runway, and BossedUp.

This event is everything you as a young professional needs to be your own professional advocate. Whether you are a job seeker or young professional seeking to navigate your career and advocate for yourself, this conference has something for you. So much of career success is mastering your narrative, proper presentation of your skills/experience, and communicating your needs. This conference will EMPOWER you as you navigate the tech space!

For job seekers: Women in Technology is hosting a job fair March 30, 2017 and this is a perfect opportunity to hone interview skills, refine your resume, and start networking with recruiters and others in this space.

For everyone: Learn to be your best professional advocate by learning communication and negotiation skills. You too can continue to refine your resume and professional narrative.

Break Out Sessions (Pick 2):

Session 1

  • Resume and Interview Tips: How to make a strong impression during an interview and make your resume stand out hosted by SHRM.

  • Dress Like a Boss!: How to dress for the career you want not the job you’re in. Hosted by Rent the Runway

  • Knowing yourself is knowing how to be successful: Tap into your inherent traits and learn how it parlays into professional opportunities and success. Hosted by Pymetrics

Session 2

  • Negotiation Skills: Learn how to negotiate for what you want and you deserve in your profession and your life! Hosted by Bossed Up

  • NonTraditional Tech Career Panel: This panel features tech experts with a variety of professional backgrounds all working in the tech space. Come learn from experts how to use your law degree, HR skills, marketing and design skills, etc in the tech space.

  • Crafting Your Professional Narrative: WIT YP Chairs Camille Stewart and Allyson McDougal will walk you through crafting your professional narrative and making conscious decisions about crafting your career and professional brand.

Keynote Session:

Assertive Communication: Own Your Voice Keynote

Emilie Aires, the Founder of Bossed Up Bootcamp, will explain the difference between assertive and aggressive behavior and the many benefits of Asserting yourself strategically at work. She will walk you through best practices for assertive communication through verbal, visual, and vocal mediums as a way to better understand the messages we’re sending. Being assertive is essential for leadership.
