The Witching Hour by James Trofatter
Presented by Candlelight Theatre, The Witching Hour by James Trofatter premiers at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site this October, giving patrons a fun and frightful experience through tales told by witches both historical and fictional.
Coventon, the only School of Wizardry and Witchcraft in North America, is opening its doorand vetting future wand-wielders from Indianapolis' "mundane" population. Head-hunters will be on the grounds of the Presidential Site to introduce potential recruits to the school's varied and nefarious staff. Expect to see a cannibal or two from the school while walking through this glorious Victorian home. We even have on staff the most evil man to ever have trod the Occult paths, Aleister Crowley, as well as Etienne Guibourgh, known for his mastery of the Dark Arts. The only requirement for enrollment to Coventon is your Soul - payable in monthly installments. Only kidding. Or are we?
Be sure to make your reservations early for this spine-tingling performance...if you dare. (Performances will sell out; reservations strongly suggested.)
What to Expect:
Audiences will progress from room to room enjoying performances throughout the home of Benjamin Harrison. Audiences will travel up and down two flights of narrow stairs (elevator assistance is available – please indicate if you need elevator access during the registration process so we can best accommodate you). Guests will view shorter vignettes standing and longer scenes seated. Each performance lasts approximately 75 minutes.
What are my event parking options?
Parking is available along Delaware Street.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
You do not need to bring your printed ticket. There will be a check-in table on the front porch of the home with your party's information if you can not print your ticket.
What is the refund policy?
Tickets are generally not refunded. If you can no longer attend or need to change your performance date or time, please call Ashleigh Graves-Roesler at 317-631-1888 and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Is this performance appropriate for children?
Children are welcome to attend. However, as a general rule, we do not recommend this performance for children under the age of six due to the darkness of the home, the length of the performance and several graphic descriptions included in the dialogue. Please call Ashleigh Graves-Roesler at 317-631-1888 to discuss further if you have questions.
When & Where
Candlelight Theatre at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site
The Candlelight Company performs three times per year at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site. Since 2004, when Dr. Donna Wing worked with the museum staff to create what has become Candlelight Theatre, a partnership featuring 19th-century and early 20th-century plays with the President's historic home providing a one-of-a-kind stage. We are keenly aware of this rare opportunity to present a variety of theatre genres that rotate the audience through the sacred space of a President's home, showcasing antique Harrison collectibles and furnishings. Candlelight Theatre continues to offer theatrical experiences that carefully weave entertainment and experience with education—which is at the heart of our mission: to increase public understanding of, appreciation for, and participation in the American system of self-government through the life stories, arts and culture of an American President.
