Event description

Description

Travel through the Willow Flowage in Oneida County to see why there should not be a sulfide mine built upstream of this beautiful waterway. This guided trip will include members of Protect the Willow, the citizen group that campaigned to ask their community to oppose a mining referendum on their November 2018 ballot. They were successful, 62% of Oneida County voters agreed that there should not be a mine here. Hear their story about how they continue to work to save this beautiful river.

Surrounded by swamps, bogs and other watery lowlands, the Willow Flowage Scenic Waters Area is isolated from roads and development. This remoteness, along with its natural shoreline, draws visitors from around the state and region. Some describe this area as providing a wilderness experience described as "almost Canada."

Paddlers should bring their own boats, paddles, PFD's, other paddling supplies and drinking water. Lunch will be provided.

Cancellation Policy: We would be happy to refund your registration fee if you need to cancel up to 72 hours before the event. If you cancel within 72 hours, we are unable to refund the fee, but we will consider it a donation and send you a tax receipt. If River Alliance cancels the event, you will receive a full refund. (Of course, if you want to make that payment a donation, we’d happily accept it.)
