Description

A Retreat for Compassion-Based Activism, led by Dr. Frank Rogers

We live in challenging times. Political and religious divides are increasingly polarizing us around competing ideologies; the abuse of power, the legitimation of social othering, and the denigrations of injustice are rampant; and social and relational tensions are rising to frighteningly violent proportions.

The Way of Jesus offers us direction. Jesus was a spiritual teacher and a prophet of peace within an oppressive society. He called us to radical compassion. What does that look like in today’s world?

This retreat—through stories, contemplative practices, reflection exercises, and group processes—will explore what Jesus’ radical invitation might look like in today’s challenging world and offers an orienting compass to guide a social activism rooted in empowered compassion.

Dr. Frank Rogers is the Muriel Bernice Roberts Professor of Spiritual Formation and Narrative Pedagogy and the co-director of the Center for Engaged Compassion at the Claremont School of Theology. He is the author of Practicing Compassion, and Compassion in Practice: The Way of Jesus.
