Event description
A jazzy & interactive Nutcracker holiday experience co-presented by Ventana Ballet & Red Nightfall Productions

About this Event

The Watchmaker’s Song is an interactive re-imagination of the story of the The Nutcracker.

Upon entering the cozy, festoon-lit courtyard of the Neill-Cochran House Museum, guests are offered cocktails and hors d'oeuvres as they are subsequently immersed in this enchanted holiday tale. A mysterious character, The Watchmaker himself, emerges among the crowd and invites the attendees to follow him down the brick-laden path surrounding the shaded oak property of the 19th century home. Just around the corner, the Austin Jazz Band plays Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite, immersing the audience in a holiday swing-dancing party set to a live, jazzy rendition of the original Tchaikovsky Nutcracker music. The Watchmaker’s Song is a whimsical version of this holiday favorite that engages the audience in both the traditional components of the Nutcracker Ballet and also some elements of the original story by E.T.A. Hoffman.

Guests enjoy a holiday party and pop-up performances on the front lawn, meeting more charming characters, who then invite the party-goers to experience more of the magic inside the historical house. In each room of the house, guests find themselves surrounded by several live installations of cultural music and dance. This year’s guest artists weave a cultural festival of dances throughout the mansion: Argentinian tango, Egyptian bellydance, Irish step dance, Spanish flamenco, and Chinese Dai ethnic dance. The event culminates with a special finale of fairy-like characters in the grand room before the audience exits the house, returning to the real world.
