The Ardara GAP Heritage and History Group are organising their inaugural ‘Warp and Weft of Heritage’ Weekend under the theme of 'Celebrating Heritage' from Friday 14th to Sunday16th October. The programme for the weekend commences on Friday night at 7:00pm with Registration and Welcome at the Nesbitt Arms Hotel. At 7:30pm Conor Newman, chairperson of The Heritage Council will speak about ‘The importance of heritage to communities – The Irish Nation’. Bringing the evening to a close will be an Oíche Coís Tine incorporating traditional Irish music and song, at the Céilí House Bar from 9:00pm. Over Saturday and Sunday there will be seven engaging, lively and thought provoking talks ranging from shipwrecks, sea weed farms, folklore, weaving, sport, archaeology, history and heritage of the greater Ardara area presented by an impressive line-up of speakers from around the country (see brochure). Also included in the weekend’s programme are a series of workshops, demonstrations, field trips and a ‘Bring Your Own Sod of Turf’ storytelling afternoon! Saturday’s entertainment will be by the aptly named ‘The Last Chance’ as part of this exciting weekend. The NESBITT ARMS HOTEL are offering a special weekend rate that includes two night’s B&B, dinner and registration fee of €110 per person sharing and €140 single.
