The Volunteers: AFS Then & Now Museum Reception
Fri, March 31, 2017, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM EDT
Please join us for an evening celebrating the volunteers of the American Field Service, a WWI and WWII ambulance drivers corps, and the organization to which its founders gave rise, AFS Intercultural Programs (AFS). AFS is a leader in international student exchange with programs in 80 countries and more than 50,000 global volunteers who help foster intercultural learning and global citizenship in communities around the world.
Online ticket sales have ended, but you may buy tickets at the door for $35. Students are FREE with a paying adult. Besides the program, there will be heavy hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and a silent auction.
Parking in Seventh Street Station is free, validated courtesy of the Levine Museum. Present parking ticket at the desk upon arrival.
"The Volunteers: Americans Join World War I, 1914-1919" is a special exhibition on loan to Charlotte’s Levine Museum of the New South from the National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Mo., and presents individual descriptions, documents and artwork detailing the ways in which Americans aided war efforts through humanitarian and military relief. Countless local, regional and national groups throughout the U.S. — such as the American Field Service, the YMCA, the YWCA and the Red Cross — provided labor, food, entertainment and physical support to Allied forces.
The reception on Friday, March 31, at the Levine Museum of the New South benefits the Greater Charlotte Area Team of AFS Intercultural Programs/USA. Tickets and donations will help provide need-based study abroad opportunities for Charlotte-area high school students. AFS Intercultural Programs/USA is a 501(c)(3) organization.
