The Virtue of Reality: An Immersive Experience

Event description

Virtue of Reality is an exciting immersive open-world experience.

Stakeholders of massive conglomerate corporation VeraRev, are invited to an exclusive high-tech virtual reality preview of the idealized future. However, the simulation that guests end up witnessing is far from the idyllic VeraRev collective vision.

Visitors should be prepared to experience a short virtual reality headset presentation and become immersed in a designed environment that is completely free to explore. Interact with the inhabitants of the future and determine what is in store for VeraRev and the rest of humanity.

About the designers:

We are the inaugural class of the University of Colorado Boulder's Experience Design MFA program! The Virtue of Reality is our MFA Thesis Project, an immersive experience that we have fully designed from start to finish including creative concepting, story writing, scripting, casting, building, and producing.

Written, designed and directed by the Experience Design MFA Cohort: Erin Carlson, Jenine Dunn, Adrianna Hipple, Jack McCahan, Camila Montoya, Lyndie Raymond, and Veronica Rodriguez. Special help from our program director Bruce Bergner.

Disclaimer: Essential oils, scents, and plants will be used throughout the space for effects and set dressing - please be aware if you have allergies or sensitivities.

How to best enjoy the experience:

- Be prepared to view a brief virtual reality experience with a headset, while seated. VR will only be used for a quick portion of the experience and is by no means the focus of the show, but please prepare accordingly (we'll ask you to remove hats, etc.)

- This is an open world experience meaning you are encouraged to explore the set at your own pace. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes as you'll be on your feet for a majority of the time.

- Groups are welcome however we do encourage experiencing the show independently as your personal choose-your-own-adventure. Throughout the experience it is possible that groups may get split up temporarily.

- Immersive means interactive. Actors will approach you and interact with you as they tell their story as inhabitants of the world. However, we take great pride and caution in training and prepping the actors to be gentle - you'll never be forced to do or say anything you're not comfortable with.

- Please come with an open mind and a desire to explore and play! We've build this experience for our audience and we can't wait for you to be inside and interacting.

When should I arrive?

Ticketing times will be enforced - please plan to arrive a few minutes early so you are prepared to enter the experience as closely as possible to your ticketed start time.

How long is the experience?

Virtue of Reality is designed to last around an hour.

Is there a minimum age requirements to enter the event?

We suggest ages 10+ for this experience. As long as youngsters are willing and able to behave and participate in an open environment where there are live actors and a set to interact with, we welcome them!

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

This event is on CU's campus in Boulder. The Carlson Gym is adjacent to the CU Rec Center that has a parking lot available at 1855 Pleasant Street. Additional street parking in the area is available on University Avenue near the north side of Macky Auditorium - from there it's a quick 5 minute walk to Carlson Gym.

What can I bring into the event?

No large bags or backpacks will be allowed into the experience. If a small bag or purse is necessary, we recommend one with a strap that allows free use of your hands. If you must come with a larger bag, we will insist you leave it outside the experience area at your own risk - there will be no bag check available.

Phones will be allowed but must be set to silent mode. Photography is allowed without flash. Be sure to tag us! #VirtueOfReality
