Birds and Flowers, April and May - A Springtime Celebration

The Vermont Choral Union season concludes the 2018-19 season with two May concerts.

Saturday, May 4, 2019, at 7:30 pm - Unitarian Church of Montpelier, Montpelier, VT

Sunday, May 5, 2019, at 3:00 pm - McCarthy Arts Center Recital Hall at Saint Michael’s College, Colchester, VT

The Vermont Choral Union, directed by Lisa Jablow since August 2018, is pleased to present two spring concerts on May 4 and 5, 2019. Founded in 1967, The Vermont Choral Union draws inspiration from many centuries of classical a cappella music. Sharing a passion for artistic achievement, the ensemble explores timeless works of the past, along with today's newest compositions. Through a diverse and varied concert program, the singers strive to delight audiences with programs that portray the rich history of this genre of choral music.

The ensemble of community-based singers will perform a program of a collection of pieces which musically encapsulate feelings of awakening nature with the sounds and sights of spring. Music director Lisa Jablow describes this particular program’s vibrant spring selections as, “just a general idea of spring - while the repertoire possibilities are virtually limitless, those do seem to be the four major themes that keep coming up - April, with all its possibilities, and May, which realizes them with birds and flowers. Included in the program are familiar and cheerful madrigals of the Renaissance by Janequin, Arcadelt, Lassus, Monteverdi, Morley, and Weelkes as well as spring poems artfully expressed in songs of Romantic, turn-of-the-century, and contemporary composers Johannes Brahms, Hubert Parry, Charles Villiers Stanford, Louise Grant, and Paul Fetler.

The Vermont Choral Union invites you to their two spring concerts on Saturday, May 4th at 7:30 pm at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier in Montpelier, Vermont, and Sunday, May 5th at 3:00 pm at McCarthy Arts Center Recital Hall at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont.
