The Veritas Center: The Catholic Church in World Affairs
Fri, Apr 28, 2017, 2:00 PM – Sat, Apr 29, 2017, 6:00 PM EDT
While the Church's international, charitable and relief efforts are well known, even many Catholics are unaware of the Church's considerable efforts in other domains on the world stage. Whether it be in the Church as a political force with the Holy See seeking to influence international developments, her massive diplomatic efforts and presence in almost every country, her historical initiatives to protect her rightful perogatives and the religious freedom of her adherents by concordats and treaties, her persistant efforts to resolve international conflicts and promote peace, her advocacy for human rights or her work at the United Nationals and other international orginzation to oppose deleterious cultural and moral trends and secure true human development, the Church has had a consistent and crucial instructional role. Indeed, she helped bring about such events as the collaps of European communism in the late 1980's. These and other topics will be discussed at this major conference of Franciscan University of Steubenville's Veritas Center for Ethics and Public Life, co-sponsored by the Society of Catholic Social Scientists.
