Event description

Description

The bulk of the Duke Ellington items in the Savory Collection come from radio broadcasts made between 1937 and 1939. The band was broadcasting from The Cotton Club, and included are unique items that were never recorded again, such as a hot version of CHINA BOY featuring Johnny Hodges in a tribute to Sidney beeches. There is also an Ellington small group session in superb fidelity. Of special significance is the1946 jam recorded at Carnegie Hall with guest guitarist Django Reinhardt.
