Event description

Description

Mosier, Oregon (just east of Hood River) is home to some of summer’s finest activities - cherry-picking, hiking, and swimming! Join us as we do all 3 for a perfect PNW summer day. We’ll start by picking some cherries at Evans’ Fruit Company, then take a hike to some Columbia Gorge-eous vistas on the Mosier Plateau, and finally dip our toes in a local swimming hole.

Note: as with all Living Big events, this event is for women only. A major tenet of Living Big is to make travel and adventures more accessible to women who don’t want to go at it alone. To learn more about the philosophy, click here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can I expect from the day?

We’ll meet at the cherry farm to learn about their orchards (the Evans’ family has been in Mosier since the 1880s!) and we’ll each pick a few pounds of cherries to take home. After packing most of our cherries in a cooler, we’ll take a short hike up to Mosier Plateau to enjoy some views of the Columbia Gorge. From there, we’ll take the trail down down to a secret swimming hole. We’ll take a dip in the water, eat our lunches, then mosey on back to the farm to end our day.

What should I wear & what should I bring?

  • A sack lunch to eat by the river

  • Shoes you can hike in, are okay getting wet, and have a sole that will help you safely walk across wet rocks and streams (Keens, Tevas, or similar are good options)

  • Wear a swimsuit, or something you’re comfortable swimming in - there won’t be any private buildings to change in (although you’re welcome to change at the river under your towel, if preferred!)

  • A hat, especially if it’s a hot day

  • At least two bottles of water, or as much as you’ll need to stay hydrated through the day’s activities

  • Sunscreen

  • Towel

  • Optional: dry clothes to change into after swimming

What level of activity should I expect?

The trip is moderately strenuous. Activities include: climbing up/down ladders to pick cherries, hiking about 2.5 miles that include hills, navigating across wet rocks and small streams to reach a swimming hole, and then if you decide to swim, navigating wet rocks to get into the water, and then pulling yourself out of the water. Participants should take personal responsibility to ensure they are physically able and healthy to participate. If in doubt, consult with a medical doctor to determine if you are healthy and physically able to participate.

Please note: we advise that you do not jump or dive off of the rocks into the swimming hole.

How do I get there and where should I park?

From I-84, take exit 69 U.S. 30 toward Mosier. Turn right on Washington St, then turn left on 3rd Ave. After 1.5 miles up hill and out of town, 3rd Ave continues to the left, and turns into State St. Shortly after, look for signs for Evans Fruit Company and turn into the large field on the right. There will be ample parking there.

Is there a minimum age for this event?

Women over the age of 15, that are physically able to participate, are welcome to join. Women between the ages of 15-17 may participate, provided that their parent or legal guardian is also registered and plans to fully
participate. Their parent or legal guardian must complete their registration and sign the waiver on their behalf.

Do I need to print out and bring a ticket to get in?

No, it isn’t necessary to bring a printed ticket.
