About this event

What “The Truth About VBAC™ for Professionals” Covers

VBAC is a political hot potato resulting in conflicting opinions that all seem to cite the very same national guidelines and research. Imagine knowing this subject inside and out without spending hundreds of hours doing the research yourself!

Through this 6-hour training, Jen shares every step of the process for achieving clarity on the latest VBAC and repeat cesarean evidence, so you can confidently discuss the facts anywhere anytime. Big babies, postdates, birth intervals, single versus dual layer suturing, uterine thickness, the VBAC calculator... she covers it all while citing medical research that is not available to the public.

The training will review multiple sources, how people have interpreted them, and how to evaluate medical literature, so moving forward, you will be able to read and understand the research. (Spoiler Alert: Reading the abstract isn't sufficient) This is a skill set you can use for the rest of your life.

There will also be an open, honest, and frank conversation on hospital versus out-of-hospital VBAC so you can actually understand the evidence rather than having your opinion colored by hearsay or isolated incidents.

You’ll become familiar with hospital VBAC bans and national recommendations so you can understand how politics and the (mis)interpretation of ACOG guidelines are contributing to the rising maternal morbidity and mortality rates.

Jen will break down why VBAC is so hard, and even impossible for parents to access, and the massive public health implications when political and legal concerns drive medical care... and how that has exposed providers to a whole new level of legal risk.

After working directly with thousands of medical providers, birth professionals, and parents for almost a decade, Jen knows the challenges you face and the information you want. This training is designed to answer all the questions people typically ask as well as the questions they don't even know to ask.

Attendees have described this training as “outstanding, easy to understand, non-judgmental, priceless, and the best resource to date.” The clarity students received was immensely valuable to them, their practice, and the families they serve and started a small revolution of information within their community. They were no longer confused about evidence. They no longer wondered if _______ was supported by the medical literature or national guidelines. They knew.

Jen Kamel, VBAC Facts® Founder

Jen Kamel is an internationally recognized Consumer Advocate who founded VBAC Facts® in November 2007 after her own vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). With her professional history as a commercial real estate research manager performing demographic and geographic analysis for international, national, and local companies, she was accustomed to gathering information, analyzing it, and presenting her findings in everyday terms. After her cesarean in 2004, she directed her skill set to VBAC and repeat cesarean for her own personal decision making. After her VBAC, she looked at the information she had acquired in light of all the misinformation and confusion that dominated many exchanges among parents and professionals. VBAC Facts® was born.

Since then, she has traveled the country as a California Board of Registered Nursing Continuing Education Provider training perinatal professionals on the VBAC evidence and politics. She has been invited to speak at various regional, national, and international conferences, including Human Rights in Childbirth, DONA International, Midwives’ Association of Washington State, and the American Association of Birth Centers, as well as webinars sponsored by organizations like Lamaze and ICAN International.

She provides ongoing continuing education opportunities to perinatal professionals around the world who want to increase VBAC access in their communities through the VBAC Facts® Professional Membership.

As a legislative consultant in various states including California, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Indiana, she has focused on midwifery legislation and regulations specifically as it pertains to VBAC. She has testified multiple times in front of the California Medical Board and legislative committees on the importance of VBAC access and has served as an expert witness in legal proceedings.

The Mission

VBAC Facts® seeks to increase VBAC access through educational programs, legislative action, and amplifying the consumer voice. We envision a time when every pregnant person seeking VBAC has access to unbiased information, respectful providers, and community support, so they can plan the joyful birth of their choosing in the setting they desire.
