The Town Oven: Costa Rica & El Salvador
Date and time
Description
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
In antiquity, many communities shared access to a single town oven. Working with an adobe bread oven constructed in the park, Leyna Lightman revives this communal baking tradition and collaborates with women from different regions of the world to prepare, bake, and share bread over conversations that explore the history and heritage of this fundamental food. Corn has been a central element and vital crop in Central America since ancient times; bakers from Costa Rica and El Salvador explore the millennia-old culinary, agronomic, and spiritual history of this crop. Led by Karla T. Vasquez, Roxana Jullapat, and Michelle Lainez. Capacity is limited to 18; RSVP preferred, space given on a first-come, first-served basis.
