Event Details

Buddhist Action Month (BAM!) is an annual Buddhist festival initiated by the Network of Buddhist Organisations (NBO) in 2012 to inspire and support social change and care for the environment.

For the month of June, BAM encourages Buddhists of all traditions to take their practice off the cushion and into the world, to exemplify compassion, ethics, meditation, and insight in the real world and in contact with others.

For 2019, the focus of Buddhist Action Month is Climate Action - Personal Action

Find out more about Buddhist Action Month by downloading the handbook now: 2019-BAM-Handbook

What else you can do now:

    • Start talking to your local centre or group about Buddhist Action Month
    • Connect with existing groups involved in climate action, like Extinction Rebellion or the DANCE network
    • Get resourced – learn more about climate breakdown and what we can do about it
    • Join the BAM Facebook group
    • Download our event planning guide
    • Sign up to the BAM mailing list
    • Have a look at the special offer for BAM participants from Ethical Consumer magazine

On 26th June, ahead of the Time is Now Mass Lobby of Parliament, join Juliet Hackney, Chair of the Network of Buddhist Organisations, and Jamie Cresswell, NBO Trustee, Director of the Centre for Applied Buddhism, and Chair of Religions for Peace UK, to learn about a Buddhist approach to climate action, learn and celebrate what's already been happening across the UK during June 2019, and how you can get involved.

The Time is Now - Workshops, Walk of Witness and Speaker Event

The Faith for the Climate Network invites you to join us ahead of The Time is Now mass lobby of parliament on 26th June.

Please join us for:

  • Faith-based and interfaith Workshops taking place at St Martin in the Fields at 9.30am and 10.30am [please book on to one at 9.30am and one at 10.30am - details of each workshop option are in the separate event pages below]
  • Walk of Witness - please join us at 11.30am outside the National gallery at the top of Trafalgar Square to walk along Whitehall as a witness to the care of all our faiths for creation
  • Interfaith speaker event - keynote address from former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, with Qari Asim MBE, Chair of the Mosques and Imams Advisory Board; Vishvapani, Buddhist teacher and Radio 4 Thought for the Day contributor; Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, leader of Masorti Judaism in the UK; and Christine Allen, CAFOD CEO - at Church House from 12 noon to 1.15pm [Please book for this event on the event booking page below - places are limited and admission will be strictly by ticket only]
  • And then join the Mass Lobby of Parliament which is taking place 1-4pm all around Parliament. Let's tell our MPs we want new legislation to end the UK's contribution to climate change, and to build a better world for nature and people.

The Cafe in the Crypt of St Martin's will be open from 9am providing refreshments.

Meditation for the Climate will take place at 10.30am in the Dick Shepherd Chapel of St Martin in the Fields [see event booking page below].

St Margaret's Church Westminster is also open all morning for private prayer [please note, banners cannot be taken into St Margaret's Church].

Please note: the interfaith Speaker Event at noon is now fully booked, including the livestream/additional capacity. Some of the morning workshops are now fully booked.

Please do continue to book for the workshops with remaining spaces [mainly workshops 1 and 7], and do join us outside the National Gallery for the interfaith Walk of Witness at 11.30am.

Please also be sure to register for the Mass Lobby itself, so your MP knows you are coming, here:
