Event description

Description

Do your part in keeping our local beaches clean and beautiful! Come join the New England Aquarium’s young professionals group, The Tide, and the Boston Chapter of the Women's Energy Network to kick-off the summer with a fun and impactful beach cleanup, hosted by the Aquarium's Live Blue Service Corps!

CLEANUP UPDATE - LOCATION CHANGE

Due to a movie that is being filmed at Revere Beach this weekend, it has come to our attention that the area will not be accessible during the time scheduled for our cleanup (thanks, Ryan Reynolds!). That said, as there is plenty of shoreline around Boston that needs our attention, we were able to find a new location for our cleanup to take place – the nearby Belle Isle Marsh Reservation!

Belle Isle is an urban nature preserve and public recreation area that protects 188 acres of marsh. Located between Boston and Winthrop, it faces immense challenges from nearby human activity – debris and litter from surrounding neighborhoods accumulates here, brought in from the tides and wind. Because of this, a cleanup here is more intensive, as you are not only cleaning trash that is left by visitors, but also that which travels out from the mainland.

After the cleanup, stick around for sandwiches and lemonade and celebrate a job well done with your fellow ocean enthusiasts!

HELPFUL CLEANUP TIPS:

  • Everyone will need to fill out a waiver! We will be sending this prior to the cleanup, but will also have some available at check-in.

  • This event is rain or shine so please check the forecast and dress appropriately.

  • Even though it's summer, please plan on wearing durable, closed toe shoes for the cleanup. Due to the varied terrain of the area, rubber boots or sturdy sneakers are needed!

  • Pack extra layers! The marsh area can be windy and buggy. In general, wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty.

  • Things to bring: sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, full reusable water bottle, bug spray, change of shoes/socks, layers (including pants and long sleeve shirt)

Directions:

The cleanup site is located right past 104 Summer Street, Revere, MA

**DO NOT use the main entrance for the Belle Isle Marsh Reservation. The area we will be cleaning is not accessible through this entrance. Please use address above.**
