Event description

Description

This is a Live Event being held in Syracuse NY. It is not a virtual event.

We are extending this particular local Syracuse NY Live Event to TWO SUCCESSIVE EVENINGS so that more people can attend. It is the same event both nights, so you should only register for one event.

Presentation Topic:

If you teach reading, chances are you have encountered the Three Cueing Systems Venn diagram as an illustration
of how reading works. If you haven't seen the diagram, you've likely seen its elements in published materials and assessments. The cueing systems are often called semantic, syntactic, and graphophonemic – or meaning,
structure, and visual (MSV).

In this session, Dr. Heidi Beverine-Curry, The Reading League's Vice President of Professional Development, will help us to explore the answers to the following questions, helping us to become wise instructional consumers:
 Where did the Three Cueing Systems diagram originate?
 How is it most often interpreted?
 How does it hold up against the scientific evidence base?
 How did it get perpetuated?
 What are the implications for teachers and students?
 What are some related misconceptions?
 How can we stop the spread of misinformation?
