Description

Adrian Vermeule on the Current State of Administrative Law:

An Interdisciplinary Conversation

Thirteenth Annual John F. Scarpa Conference on Law, Politics, and Culture

Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law

Friday, September 21, 2018

Is Administrative Law unlawful? What justifies the administrative state’s wholesale departure from the traditional legal guarantees of the common law and the Constitution of the United States? Is any lawlessness on the part of the contemporary administrative state justified as a response to a “state of emergency?” Adrian Vermeule, the John H. Watson Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, will defend the lawfulness of the contemporary administrative state as featured speaker at the 13th Annual John F. Scarpa Conference on Law, Politics, and Culture. The event will feature a number of distinguished panelists, including Edward Rubin, Dean Emeritus of Vanderbilt Law School, who are scholars of law, political science, economics, philosophy, sociology, and theology. Panelists and participants will engage in an extensive and engaging conversation about the state of the world relative to administrative law.

The symposium takes place on Friday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Martin G. McGuinn ’67 Ceremonial Courtroom (Room 201) of the Law School. This program is approved by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education for 5.5 substantive CLE credits and 1 ethics CLE credits (6.5 total CLE Credits).
