About this event
Workshop participants will learn about Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), an innovative treatment approach that combines ketamine administration in a safe and supportive set and setting with inner- directed and supportive psychotherapy and ongoing integration. In addition, you will learn the science behind the use of cannabis as a therapeutic agent, that allows clients to process trauma somatically, thus releasing its effects from the system.
In March 2019, ketamine was approved by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression in adults, and it became the first legal psychedelic to be used therapeutically since the 1960s. With the approval of medical marijuana in 37 states, cannabis is available as well, allowing psychotherapists to collaborate with medical professionals in providing these powerful healing modalities to not only depressed clients, but those with PTSD, anxiety, OCD, and a host of other mental health symptoms. Ketamine is also highly beneficial in supporting clients to reduce or eliminate other psychotropic medications.
Through case study examples, you will learn how essential your role as a psychotherapist is in increasing the efficacy of these treatments, as well as ways you can begin the process of training and collaboration with the medical community.
Please note: The HPG workshop series is approved by the D.C. Board of Social Work for ten 1.5 hour workshops from Sept - June for a total of 15 CEUs if you attend all workshops. CEU certificates are emailed upon request in July. There is a requirement of 2 CEU credit hours or more for a certificate.
* This HPG presentation will be recorded. For those who would like to attend, but find that the time of the presentation doesn't work with your schedule, you may signup and get the recording of the presentation afterwards.
About the presenter:
Kathleen Hanagan, LCSW, has been a psychotherapist for over 30 years working with individuals, couples, and groups. She is dedicated to helping people connect to the healer within, through embodied inquiry, relational shamanism, and Psychedelic Psychotherapy.
Kathleen envisions a world in which pain is shape-shifted into purpose, and the power of love prevails. She guides and inspires people to courageously love and accept themselves fully in this lifetime, offering their unique medicine to a world in need. Her personal and professional experience is that psychedelics are powerful sacred tools of transformation, when used in a therapeutic set and setting.
Her book, Loveseed: The Template For Birthing A New World, is a map for personal and global awakening that ends the trance of fear and shows the way to a world based on love and truth.
