ABOUT “THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE”:

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a 1974 American horror film directed by Tobe Hooper and written and co-produced by Hooper and Kim Henkel. It stars Marilyn Burns, Paul A. Partain, Edwin Neal, Jim Siedow and Gunnar Hansen, who respectively portray Sally Hardesty, Franklin Hardesty, the hitchhiker, the proprietor, and Leatherface. The film follows a group of friends who fall victim to a family of cannibals while on their way to visit an old homestead. Although it was marketed as a true story to attract a wider audience and as a subtle commentary on the era's political climate, its plot is entirely fictional; however, the character of Leatherface and minor plot details were inspired by the crimes of real-life murderer Ed Gein.

WHO IS FESTIVAL OBSCURA?

Based out of Long Beach, Festival Obscura was founded by Martin Svab (Phantom Carriage Brewery, The 4th Horseman) and partner Ryan Hughes (Phantom Carriage Brewery, The 4th Horseman). Svab and Hughes, both Long Beach residents, appreciate the rich culture and history of this vibrant, coastal city. Their passion for local history and the macabre, combined with their philanthropic nature and vast experience in craft beer and event production, led them to their partnership with Sunnyside Cemetery.

Festival Oscura currently hosts Sunnyside Cemetery Cinema and recently produced the inaugural Celebration at Sunnyside Cemetery, a sold out fundraising event that saw 1500 guests enjoying craft beer, wine, art, collectibles & music and rased $42k for the cemetery.

ABOUT THE ART THEATRE:

The Art Theatre originally opened in 1925 as a single screen silent movie house, complete with an orchestra pit, and pipe organ. At that time, there were over 50 independent theatres in Long Beach, today only the Art remains. After the quake of 1933, the façade of the theatre was recreated in an art deco, streamline modern style. As years passed the theatre continued to undergo change as the world around it evolved. In 2008, a group of local investors purchased the theatre and completely remodeled it based on the 1933 blueprints. Since, the Art has once again become the center of Long Beach cinema, showing both first run and small independent films in a beautiful historic setting.
