As part of the Columbia Technology Ventures (CTV) Educational Event Series, and in coordination with SEAS, this event will feature Joe Jones, an inventor of the Roomba. Join us for a lively discussion as CTV Technology Licensing Officer Teresa Fazio and Dr. Jones discuss his technology transfer story: from a lab at MIT, to the startup iRobot and commercialization of the Roomba, to his new role as CTO of Harvest Automation.
About the speakers
Joe invents practical robots. A robotics visionary with 30 years in the field, Joe was the first employee of iRobot, where he and Harvest cofounder Paul Sandin invented Roomba, the floor-cleaning blockbuster, which has sold over 9 million units. He spent 9 years in robotic research at the MIT AI Lab, authored three books on robotics, and holds 25 patents.
Teresa Fazio is a Technology Licensing Officer at Columbia University, and helps works with researchers from Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics to commercialize their inventions. She has earned a physics degree from MIT and a PhD in materials science from Columbia. She does not yet own a Roomba, but will probably want one after this conversation.
