About this event
As Africa races against time to meet the 2030 deadline of the United Nation's SDG7 for clean and affordable energy for the over 600million of Africa's population without access to electricity and over 1billion of its population without access to clean cooking technologies. Focus has shifted to the potential of the abundant waste generated in the region to meet the energy needs of the continent.
According to the World Bank, Sub-Saharan Africa generated about 170 million tons of waste in 2016, a value which is expected to rise to 269million tons by 2030 and 516million tons by 2050. Most of this waste is openly burnt which leads to the emission of methane and other greenhouse gases to the environment. Waste-to-energy has been identified as one of the ways of utilizing this waste generated in Africa, to generate electricity and at the same time reduce the mountainous amount of waste that pollutes the environment
In the 3rd edition of The Sustainable Energy Talk (#TSET). We will look at the opportunities challenges and Prospects of waste-to-energy in Africa with seasoned industry experts, regulators, and the academia
