Thank you for your interest in our 2019 Summit, we're putting the finishing touches on our agenda and updates will be made accordingly.

Once again, the Maine Grocers & Food Producers Association and Retail Association of Maine have combined forces to bring you, The Summit. This event will bring together Maine’s business community uniting retailers, grocers, food producers and industry partners for an impressive day full of education, inspiration, Maine flavor and, fun!

Wednesday, October 23rd:
Join us for scenic oceanview golf or some coastal shopping and sightseeing prior to an informal
5 p.m.: Welcome Social Hour Join us for some excellent Maine food products and beverages at the Samoset Resort.

Thursday, October 24th:

8 – 8:30 a.m.: Registration, Breakfast, Vendor Networking & Scholarship Auction Preview

8:30 – 9:00 a.m.: Welcome - MGFPA & RAM Annual Meetings

9:00 – 10:00 a.m.: The 129 Legislature Rundown: What Happened? and What's Coming? The First Regular Session of the 129th Legislature brought many changes to the business community. From PTO and pay equality to changes in workers' comp laws and environmental issues such as the plastic bag ban. We know it all seems a little overwhelming so we've put together a panel of experts to break it all down for you! Presenters: Ben Ford of Verrill, Elizabeth Brogan of Norman Hanson & DeTroy & Andy Hackman of Serlin Haley. Moderated by Curtis Picard, Retail Association of Maine.

Session 1 | Choice A- HR Handbook Workshop: This session will be a continuation of our morning Joint Session. Now that you know what all the legislative changes are - HOW do you implement them into your employee handbook? Attendees are encouraged to bring an actual copy of their HR or employee handbook with them as this will turn into a hands-on workshop session to really dive into changes and updates your small business needs to make! Back by popular demand: Presenter: Attorney Ben Ford of Verrill.

Session 1 | Choice B- Food Producer Open Forum: Reinventing your packaging; going all-natural; how to scale up to the next level; is it time to hire help? Join us in this open forum format to have these important discussions with fellow food producers. This relaxed discussion-based session will allow food producers to learn from one another!

To celebrate Reny's 70th Anniversary, hear from several generations of the Reny's family as they talk candidly about their success, growing pains, quirky who-knew moments, and the dynamics of a legendary, Maine family business.

2:45 3:45 p.m.: Untapped Potential: How to Tap Into Non-Traditional Workforce Sectors. With a low unemployment rate and a tight workforce, there definitely are sectors of workers in Maine that have both the skills and qualities you could use. Targeting certain populations for specific roles and cultivating relationships are a must to create a pipeline of future workers. The most successful business owners tailor their recruiting strategies for each demographic – and when they find a demographic that produces good employees, they engage deeply with service providers for that sector. We'll help you figure out how to tap into the potential of some of untraditional groups. Moderated by: Cynthia Murphy, Senior Program Director, Workforce Solutions at CEI plus hear from a few Maine businesses who have recruited and found success!
