Event description

Description

As life alternately crawls and whizzes by, it’s comforting to have the recurring cycle of our calendar year for an excuse to get together with our families, celebrate accomplishments, and reflect on history. Join Ed Schmutz and The Sugar Sweets on June 1st and 2nd at the Fort Calgary Burnswest Theatre to binge-celebrate an entire year’s worth of holidays together in 2 hours. ‘Calendar Girls' features 15 original dance numbers choreographed based on our favourite holidays and seasons (FYI. It was a tough call but National Corndog Day didn’t make the cut).

If you dutifully bite off a chocolate bunny ear every year on Easter, stay up to see the fireworks, have a designated area in your closet for ‘Stampede-wear’, or have partaken in a green beer or two, than this show is for you!

There will be a cash bar and access to the Fort Calgary museum during intermission. Free parking available in the Fort Calgary parking lot.

ABOUT US

The Sugar Sweets are a passionate and collaborative group of dancers who take pride in presenting high quality, historically accurate vernacular jazz, blues and chorus girl dances from the 1910's through the 1950's. Our main inspiration comes from the famous Broadway and off-Broadway chorus lines of Ziegfield, Busby Berkeley, and the Rockettes. Other influences include modern jazz choreographers, such as Bob Fosse, and teachers and leaders of the Swing revival such as Frankie Manning and Al Minns. We are also constantly improvising and creating original routines of our own based on this rich historical foundation!

WHAT TO WEAR

Dress to impress in your favourite ugly Christmas sweater, Halloween costume, or lederhosen. It’s time to get in the holiday spirit… OF ALL THE HOLIDAYS :D. Costumes are totally optional, but highly encouraged!
