The Suffragist Project: Supporting Women's Voices in Playwriting

Julia Jordan, Executive Director and Co-founder of The Lilly Awards Foundation, and Catherine Randazzo, Associate Artist, Florida Studio Theatre, in Conversation. This program is presented in partnership with The Hermitage Artist Retreat and Florida Studio Theatre.

About the Presenters:

Julia Jordan is a graduate of the Julliard Playwriting Program and the Executive Director and Co-founder of The Lilly Awards Foundations, established to recognize the achievement of women in the theatre. She has led the charge in focusing national attention on gender disparity on and across American stages and was responsible for launching The Count, an annual tally of plays by women produced by theatres across sectors. She is the co-conceiver and book writer of the cult musical Murder Ballad and is currently working on a new musical with Emile Sande.

Catherine Randazzo joined Florida Studio Theatre as an Associate Artist in 2014. She enjoys directing mainly for FST’s Winter Cabarets. This past season she directed Buyer & Cellar for FST’s 2018-19 Stage III series. Catherine was named “Sarasota’s Funniest People” for her comedic styles seen in Sarasota’s original political comedy group, License to Bash, which was a part of FST’s Cabaret Fringe Festival in 1996. Catherine calls Sarasota her artistic home since 1991. She has appeared in plays, musicals, cabarets, new play readings, voice overs and commercials, emceed fund raisers, and toured in national and international productions. She is the recipient and nominee of various awards for education, national arts awards, and local performance awards including “Best Actress in a Musical” for her performance as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl. As Associate Artist, Catherine serves as Literary Manager, in-residence director, teaching artist, and professional actor. She leads new play development, collaborates on cabaret development, teaches adult education classes, and leads audience outreach programs for FST Forums. Catherine is a graduate of Otterbein University in Ohio with a BFA in performance, and she is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association.
