Event Details

In this presentation, Marilyn Maguire will discuss the factors that influenced her early career positions, options, and the skills she developed. From the epiphany she had that Product Managers play a sophisticated game of managing expectations, resource allocation, and team deliverables that drove her to product management. She'll also be discussing the ongoing skill set she has that doesn't require excessive support, all while being the minimal feature set needed to generate real revenue. Included is a quick review of the variety of Product Manager types that she has worked with, and what the common thread is between them all. You'll be able to compare and contrast to see if this offers you the same fulfilling prospects.

Main takeaways:
-You need to be a Subject Matter Expert
-You need to have an end to end perspective of how the product fits in your business
-You need to be flexible and prepared to handle multiple roles
-You need limitless curiosity

Meet the Speaker: Marilyn Maguire

Having successful careers in both Sales and Data Networking/Telecommunications Engineering, Marilyn dipped into the Product Management pool almost twenty years ago, and dove in headfirst. Through multiple industries, communications products, telecommunications, medical devices, health insurance, and consumer software, she has leveraged her technical acumen and product management skills to launch, re-launch, maintain, extend, and end the life of multiple products. Both upstream, downstream, marketing communications, and marketing campaigns have ended up in her domain. She looks forward to sharing the strange road from Engineering to Sales to Engineering to Product Management and Marketing that her professional career has taken with you. Marilyn has both an Engineering degree and an M.B.A. along with numerous professional, skills related, and practical certifications.

Product School

Founded in 2014, Product School is the world’s first technology business school.

We provide certified courses in Product Management, Data Analytics, Coding, Digital Marketing and Blockchain to professionals across 15 campuses worldwide. In addition to on-site campuses, we also offer the same courses, live online. Both on-site and online courses are taught by real-world product managers who work at top technology companies such as Google, Facebook, PayPal, Airbnb, LinkedIn and Netflix.

Unlike traditional MBA programs designed for students seeking roles within the finance and consulting fields, Product School’s curriculum is highly relevant for the next generation of technology leaders, with classes offered at a fraction of the cost. The curriculum is designed to fit into work schedules with small classes held in the evenings or on weekends to ensure that both instructors and students can maintain their full-time jobs.

Expect a healthy mix of hands-on projects, group exercises, case studies, panel discussions and a variety of other forums to teach you how to lead cross-functional teams and build digital products from end to end. We also prepare students for product management interviews and enable them to expand their professional network through access to a private community of thousands of people; including alumni, mentors and hiring managers from top technology companies.

Product School also offers custom corporate training programs for Fortune 500 companies seeking to advance the product management skill sets of their existing teams or onboard new talent.

Committed to building the largest product management community, Product School has published the Amazon’s best-selling book The Product Book, runs The Product Awards ceremony and ProductCon, a multi-city product management conference.
