Description

The Studio Mechanics Boot Camp

Reel Works is partnering with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (I.A.T.S.E.), which represents many of the behind-the-scenes workers in theatre and film, to deliver a new STUDIO MECHANICS BOOT CAMP: A three-month training program for careers in film production.

Participants will learn essential technical and work readiness skills in motion picture lighting and grip departments from working members of IATSE Local 52. Graduates will qualify for work on film sets for union wages.

Reel Works is offering 9 ambitious young New Yorkers a chance to be part of the exciting world of electrician working on the sets of television and film. From the Gaffer who executes the lighting plan to the Best Boy who is the head assistant to the gaffer, and everybody else who works to support the team; the lighting department helps create the magic and mood that happens on screen.

Throughout the boot camp, trainees will learn workforce readiness skills and gain the essential knowledge, skills, tools, credentials, experience, and attitude that is needed for young craftspeople to work successfully on set as a Studio Mechanic. This is a first step towards a union career. The Electric Department workshop will help young applicants to work towards being part of the union and on the local 52 permit availability

This new program is unparalleled because participants, will work hands-on in multiple disciplines of studio mechanics, training with some of the industry’s top professionals.
