Wavefield Ensemble begins its second season, Project 20 | 20, with The Story of One of My Follies.
Lewis Nielson's Cilice (US premiere) is a 30-minute modern-day cantata exploring themes of sin, guilt, explation, and loss, drawing on texts by Dante, Rimbaud, Holderlin and Celan. Instrumentalists and vocalists are fused into a single sound world by way of a broad spectrum of vocal utterance. Victoria Cheah's You Would be Like Diving Into Ocean, commissioned by Wavefield will be premiered on this concert. Also on the program are the US premiere of Sarah Nemtsov's piano trio [love], excerpted from her PHONEME Cycle, and a new arrangement by Nicholas DeMaison of Nicolas Gombert's chanson, Tous les regretz.
The Story of One of My Follies is made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
