Description

The final event in the Winter Haven Public Library's 2016-17 Speaker Series:

As the turn of the 20th century approached, railroad and steamship magnate Henry Bradley Plant had a vision of building a luxury resort in Tampa. Few believed Plant could build a successful grand hotel in the small fishing village that was home to just over 800 people. In 1891, the opulent Tampa Bay Hotel opened its doors with impressive reviews from major newspapers. Discover how Plant's unique architectural design and thoughtfully landscaped gardens created a wonderland for Gilded Age travelers.

Presented by Heather Trubee Brown, Curator of Education at the Henry B. Plant Museum in Tampa. Heather received her Bachelor's degree in history from the College of Wooster, Ohio and a Master's degree in anthropology and museum management from the University of South Carolina.
