The South Texas Association of Sterile Processing Professionals is excited to invite YOU to our 2017 Winter Sterile Processing Education Conference. Start making plans now to bring your CS/SPD crew to join us at our chapter's first MEGA education event! CONFERENCE FEE WILL BE $10 PER PERSON, including 7.5 CEUs (IAHCSMM) and a FREE annual membership to the STASPS chapter (available to all attendees). Those not wishing to join can still attend for a $25 registration fee.

Richard W Schule, (Director Clinical Education, Steris) MBA,BS,FAST,CST,FCS,CRCST,CHMMC,CIS,CHL,AGTS
TOPIC: Quality Management Systems and the Challenge of Moisture Events, 1.5 Hours
Richard Schule is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and co-chair of AAMI/ST90/WG86 Quality systems for medical device reprocessing. He is also a member of the Association for periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), the American Society for Quality (ASQ), the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST), the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) and the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc. (SGNA). Richard is very active in the IAHCSMM, holding office at the local and national level to include the 2007-2009 Presidency. In years past, the IAHCSMM has presented him with the Ruth Anne Brooks Past-President Award in 1998 & 2000, the Bertha Yanis Litsky, Ph.D. Educator of the Year Award for demonstrated dedication to the advancement of education in the CS profession in 2004, and more recently the Award of Honor in 2015. Richard continues to work actively in the industry to improve the quality of product delivered to the patient care team. His efforts have been recognized as a “Who’s Who in Infection Control”, Infection Control Today - December 2006, and “Healthcare Sterile Processing Influencers to Watch”,Healthcare Purchasing News’s - September 2007.
Rose Seavey, (President/CEO of Seavey Healthcare Consulting)
TOPIC: Accreditation Surveys – Are you at Risk?, 1.5 Hours
Rose Seavey is President/CEO of Seavey Healthcare Consulting and formerly the Director of the Sterile Processing Department at The Children’s Hospital of Denver. Rose served on the AORN Board in 2008-2010. Rose is a past President ASHCSP. She received numerous awards such as AORN’s award for Mentorship in 2012 and Outstanding Achievement in Nurse Education in 2001. In addition, she received the national IAHCSMM award of Honor in 2013, the Industry Leadership Award from the Massachusetts chapter (2012) and the educator of the year award from the Golden West chapter (2013). She was one of the Who’s Who in Infection Prevention in 2006 by Infection Control Today. Ms. Seavey is the author of the book tilted Sterile Processing In Healthcare Facilities: Preparing for Accreditation Surveys, published by AAMI and she serves on several AAMI committees writing standards.
Peggy Spitzer, (Clinical Education, Certol International)
TOPIC: Chemicals in SPD – Cleaning vs. Disinfection, 1.5 Hours
Peggy Spitzer brings 20 years as college educator, 13 years as clinical educator for Certol, with focus on chemical use and safety. She was past president and secretary of the Rocky Mountain CS Chapter.
Steven Kovach, (Director of Education, Healthmark Industries)
TOPIC: Tools of the Trade, 1.5 Hours
Stephen has been in the medical field since 1975. Stephen has a BS from Central Michigan University, with a Major in Biology & History. Stephen is active both on the state and national levels of various organizations having held many positions. Stephen was the Educational chair for AORN Specialty Assembly for SP/MM (2006-2010) this was a volunteer position. He is a member of IAHCSMM orthopedic council for loaner instrumentation. He is a voting member on various AAMI committees. He also has been an instructor at the Community College level and published many articles varying in subject matter from perfusion to the importance of cleaning surgical instruments. He has also authored chapters in both the IAHCSMM 7th Technical manual and the Management manual. He has received recognition in both his personal and business profession. Stephen has received the IAHCSMM Award of Honor for his dedication to improving the role Central Service plays in the hospital. He also was named by Hospital Purchasing News in 2007 as one of the 30 most influential people within the field of Central Service. He has held many positions over the years and out of them all he is always proud to say “I have worked in the Heart of the Hospital- Central Processing."
Bob Marrs, (Director Consulting Services/Field Operations, Aesculap, Inc.)
Loaner Instrumentation -Today's Challenge, Tomorrow's Solution, 1.5 Hours
Bob Marrs is the Director of Consulting Services & Field Operations with Aesculap. Previously, Bob worked in the Perioperative setting for 21 years in various roles from Certified Surgical Technologist to CSD Technician, Case Cart Coordinator, Sterile Processing Manager and Director. Bob maintains certifications as a CRCST, CIS, CHL and is an Instructor for IAHCSMM. He served as the President of the Texas State Association of Central Service Professionals for 6 years and an IAHCSMM Executive Board member. Bob also served as the Co-Chair of the IAHCSMM membership committee and the chair and now member of the Orthopedic Committee. Bob holds a Bachelors Degree in Professional Communications from Xavier University in Cincinnati Ohio. He travels throughout the US and the world speaking about various CSSD and Infection Control issues. He is well published in numerous healthcare publications and has contributed to the IAHCSMM CRCST 7 th edition and CHL Leadership Manual. Bob has a passion for excellence in Sterile Processing and believes that certification through education provides the foundation needed for superior patient care.
