THE SONS OF THUNDER MOUNTAIN

The Sons of Thunder Mountain is a trio formed as an American acoustical folk music group in the tradition of The Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, Simon and Garfunkle, The Brothers Four and The Seekers. SoTM performs folk songs by John Denver, Pete Seger, Bob Dylan, Donovan, Arlo Guthrie, Gordon Lightfoot and Jimmy Buffet, as well as dozens of others.

Not limiting themselves to folk music, SoTM's repertoire of over a hundred songs goes back into the 1930's, plays folk rock in acoustical renditions from The Byrds, Linda Ronstadt, Buffalo Springfield, The Eagles, Crosby, Stills and Nash....and then there is the occasion original song written by one of the members. The group also varies its program with country, rock and swing, as well as taking requests - - when appropriate.

The group features both tight harmonies and instrumental prowess in the framework of a casual and family-friendly show, based on light-hearted banter amongst the members. The group's name originates from the Thunder Mountain Railroad Line, which first hired the trio to perform regularly on their excursions.

Besides appearing in Idaho's Treasure and Magic Valleys, SoTM has performed in Northwest music festivals, county fairs, on cruise ships, and as the opening act for nationally-known musicians. SoTM has two albums, one recorded live (out of print) and one in the studio, distributed on the Toad Records label.

SoTM is comprised of:
Ross Miller; vocals, bass, guitar

Ross has been a mainstay in the Southern Idaho music scene for 5 decades, heading up many bands and most notably reorganizing the legendary Idaho band, The Fabulous Chancellors in 1989. Ross has performed on and produced several albums, both for The Chancellors (on the Fraternity and Ars Noel labels), and his solo efforts. Many of the songs on these albums are his originals.

Randy Steward; vocals, guitar

Randy grew up in the music scene of Southern California, playing drums in rock and country bands, and doing performances as singer/songwriter. Longing to leave city life behind, he first moved to Northern California and then Southern Idaho 10 years ago. He recently completed his first studio album with full instrumentation, featuring 15 original songs.

Joe Baldassarre; vocals, guitar, 12-string guitar, bass, banjo, harmonica

A doctor of music, Dr. Joe was raised and educated in Northeastern Ohio, and taught classical guitar and music history for 36 years at Boise State University. A studio and gigging musician in both Ohio and Idaho, he has recorded medieval (Silver Quill label), folk and most recently two rock music albums (Toad Records) - - one all covers and one all originals.
