Event description

Description

Watch silent movies the way they were meant to be seen—on the big screen with live musical accompaniment. Showcasing a wide variety of early cinema in the best available formats, The Silent Treatment is a long-running silent movie film series curated by film archivists Brandee Cox and Steven Hill.

Considered one of the greatest silent films ever made, Von Stroheim's eight-hour long masterpiece was cut substantially by the studio against his wishes. With its story of murder, passion, and lust for gold, the morality tale at the heart of Greed captures the dehumanizing impact of money. Before or after the film, explore the new gallery initiative Gold at the [Au]try.

Directed by Erich Von Stroheim | Starring Gibson Gowland, Zasu Pitts, and Jean Hersholt | Screened in 35mm with live musical accompaniment by Cliff Retallick | Original theatrical release screened at 24 fps (frames per second) | Run time: 108 mins.

Ticket purchase includes museum admission.
