About Shelby Jane Seyburn: Shelby was a young woman with a bright future standing in front of her. Unfortunately, her life was cut short in an automobile accident in the summer of 2017. A recent honors graduate of Oakland University, Shelby worked in the lab of Dr. Taku at Oakland and was passionate about her work researching Post-Traumatic Growth Syndrome (PTGS). Through this lab, Shelby had the opportunity to get published and speak at such conferences as the American Psychological Assocaiton. She planned to apply to the Masters program in Applied Statistics at the University of Michigan and use her talents to prove the theories she had been working on and further advance her research.

About the Foundation: The Shelby Jane Seyburn Foundation was founded in Shelby's memory to keep her work, her passion, and her spirit alive. The foundation focuses it's efforts on 3 distinct missions:

1. Funding grants to the Oakland University Psychology Department, giving undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to further their education by attending professional conferences.

2. Supporting the "Teen Mom Initiative". Established by Shelby within the Oakland University Psychology Department, this initiative builds psycho-educational programs to assist teen parents at Pontiac High School, with hopes to expand these programs to more schools in the future.

3. Awarding research grants to professors who are focused on furthering research on the development of PTGS.
