Event description

Description

The show takes it’s title from Jacques famous speech in As You Like It: “All the world’s a stage, All all the women merely players, They have their exits and entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages.”

For Jacques the journey from cradle to grave is fraught with the negative voices of our culture but in our show Jacques finally gets to see the possibility of hope and life-force in the face of certain death. This community project uses music, dance, drama, masks and African drumming to create an entertaining and thought-provoking event for all ages. I have taken inspiration from many sources including Daisaku Ikeda, William Shakespeare, Stephen Jenkinson, Akram Khan and Hermione Elliott.

Seven Ages – and the Dance of Life and Death will be the first theatre production with seven performances in the fabulous St. Augustine’s Centre which is a new arts and well-being venue in Brighton developed by Roche Barrett Estates.
