Event description

Description

The Scrum Exchange, September 9th

A gathering of experienced scrum practitioners, coaches and educators to exchange existing ideas and practices, collaborate to invent and discover new ones, or simply engage in dialog with fellow practitioners.

The September Scrum Exchange is a Saturday event, and children of all ages are welcome. Please read the notes at the foot of this page for more information.

Purpose

The Scrum Exchange is an occasional event organized by Tobias Mayer. Its purpose is to bring together dedicated and passionate Scrum practitioners of various levels of experience, in order to share their ideas, insights, stories, learning exercises and methods of coaching with one another, so that the Scrum community as a whole grows stronger, closer, more thoughtful, and more supportive.

Implementation

This is not a conference. There are no name badges, no tracks, no keynotes, no invited speakers, no superstars, no leaders, no pre-ordered corporate lunches, and no product promotion or sponsorship. The event will be hosted—rather than facilitated—by Tobias Mayer, who will offer light-touch opening and closing activities and otherwise be an equal participant. The agenda is created on the day, by whoever is there. Everyone is an equal participant and can choose to do as much or as little as they like.

Reflection

Periods of reflection will occur throughout the day to share learnings, adjust the agenda, raise (and resolve) concerns, assess value and find ways to improve on the fly. Participants take responsibility to meet their own needs and to serve the group as a whole.

This event is limited to twenty-five people—no limit on the number of children, providing parents are present.

Children

Children of any age are welcome, but child-minding is not offered. If your children are under 7 they'll need to have a parent or parent-trusted carer with them at all time. Older children can be left with those participants who volunteer to facilitate the children's sessions but parents/carers must be onsite.

Self-motivated learning will occur in the children's room, based (of course!) on Scrum principles. Ideally, this won't be two separate events, and children of seven and older, if they choose, can join other sessions on offer, at the discretion of the session facilitator. Mixed-age sessions could provide some interesting learning for all concerned—and are almost guaranteed to be great fun :)

It's important to remember that, while you can expect great support from others present, each child's welfare is the responsibility of their parent/s or their trusted carer.

If you plan to bring your children, please send a message to the organiser, (after registering yourself) giving their names and ages, and also the name of the person who'll be responsible for them. In the case of over-sevens this may be you, in the case of under-sevens this must be a second person, designated as carer. There is no registration cost for children and their carers.
