Event description

Description

Planning for ENGAGEMENT with big science ideas, ELICITING students' ideas, SUPPORTING ongoing changes in students' thinking, and DRAWING together evidence-based explanations are classroom practices that help students from ALL backgrounds deeply understand fundamental science ideas.

Using Ambitious Science Teaching by Mark Windshidtl, Jessica Thompson, and Melissa Braaten as a resource, this institute for TK-12 grade teachers will focus on how the classroom environment can be developed around these practices to enhance science learning for ALL students.

Every participant attending the Institute will receive a copy of Ambitious Science Teaching to reference during the Institute.

NOTE: The Institute includes two follow-up days:

  • September 28, 2019, 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
