"The Science and Modern Techniques of Droplet Microfluidics"

Abstract: Droplet microfluidics, in which nanoliter- to picoliter-sized drops are used to encapsulate and compartmentalize molecules or cells, has enabled a wide range of biochemical applications. Examples include digital PCR, directed evolution of enzymes and screening of the efficacy of antibiotics. This talk will overview the techniques for droplet generation, manipulation and interrogation, as well as recent examples of applications.

 

 

SPEAKER BIO: Sindy K.Y. Tang joined the faculty of Stanford University in September 2011 as an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. She received her B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from California Institute of Technology in 2003, M.S. from Stanford University in 2004, and Ph.D. from Harvard University in Engineering Sciences in 2010
