Lunch & Learning Opportunity

In 2018, market shifts captured the attention of investors across the globe, including charitable donors who invest for social good in San Diego.

Join The San Diego Foundation Board of Governors Investment Committee Chair Steve Klosterman, Vice Chair Kevin Hamilton and our Chief Investment Officer Matt Fettig for our annual update about Endowment and Non-Endowment portfolio asset management strategies and performance. Special guest Shelly Heier, President of Verus Investments, will also help us understand how global economic trends affect our portfolios locally.

Matt Fettig, CFA, Vice President, Chief Investment Officer, The San Diego Foundation
Matt oversees and manages the investment strategies and activities of The San Diego Foundation. This includes working with the Investment Committee of the Board of Governors, senior staff, auditors, professional volunteers, and outside consultants to establish, maintain, administer, and monitor policies related to The Foundation’s investments. Additionally, he serves as the organization’s ambassador for all investment-related activity. Prior to joining The Foundation, Matt worked for 12 years at Canterbury Consulting, an Orange County investment consulting firm, specializing in endowments, foundations, pensions and family offices. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Matt is a CFA Charterholder.

Shelly Heier, CFA, CAIA, President & Chief Operating Officer, Verus
Shelly is President & Chief Operating Officer of Verus. A shareholder of the firm since 2007, she serves on the Verus Management Committee, chairing the Research Advisory Committee, and heading the Seattle-based consulting staff. In addition, Shelly provides strategic guidance to the firm’s research staff on important issues affecting clients, investment consulting services to a handful of select clients, including charitable organizations, corporate retirement plans, and healthcare organizations. She is active in numerous civic and industry groups.

Steve Klosterman, AIF, Investment Committee Chair, Board of Governors, The San Diego Foundation
Steve advises a wide range of individual and institutional clients, including a family office and their foundation, entrepreneurs, executives, and nonprofits. Steve began his investment management career in 1981, building his own Registered Investment Advisory business, prior to joining Halbert Hargrove in 2003. Steve is the immediate Past Chair of The UCLA Foundation and continues to serve on its Board and various committees. He is a founding board member of the UCLA Investment Company and serves on the Investment Committee for the National American Lung Association. Steve received his BA from UCLA, a MBA from Stanford University, and the Accredited Investment Fiduciary™ from the University of Pittsburgh-affiliated Center for Fiduciary Studies.

Kevin Hamilton, CFA, Investment Committee Vice Chair, The San Diego Foundation
With over 30 years of investment experience, Kevin provides a deep understanding of the asset management business. Kevin serves as an Advisor to Rosemont Investment Partners (private equity fund), and as a member of the Scripps Health Investment Committee. Previously, Kevin was Managing Director at First Foundation Advisors, President of Rice Hall James & Associates, Independent Trustee and Chairman of the Board of the Paypal Funds, and Investment Committee member of The Scripps Research Institute. Kevin is a CFA charter holder and obtained a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Investment Analysis and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Relations from the University of Southern California.
