Whether it’s in the chair at the salon or the chair in the family room, hair is a method by which Black women, girls, and femmes care for one another.

Join the Hirshhorn’s ARTLAB and THE HRCHY as they uncover the significance of Black hair, and celebrate the impacts of Black hair salons on the District through an immersive showcase.

The evening features a short film series on Black hair by ARTLAB teens, pop-up art installations, live performance from renowned artist Crowezilla, a panel discussion featuring prominent figures from D.C.’s Black hair scene, and much more! Guests will have the opportunity to share and experience live playback of their personal hair stories with the interactive theatre company, Verbal Gymnastics. There will also be music from 93.9 WKYS's Little Bacon Bear and a special appearance by journalist, author and great-great granddaughter of Madam C.J. Walker, A’Lelia Bundles.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th. We all have a hair story, what’s yours?
