Event description

Description

Voice of soul
is influx reverberating
through breath and fluid flesh
resonating waters of intrinsic wisdom
re-creating
the universe

Voice is a channel communicating our essence and is a living symbol of universal creativity.

Our voice pulsates our organs, our chords, our senses, our skin, our intentions, sending waves to shores near and very far. Echoes return and reverberate our inner being, our speech, our essential prayer.

Join us for this exploration into the power and possibility of sacred voice. We’ll dive to the depths of our bodies to find the root-place of our voice. From these places of origin, we discover the flow of soul reverberating through body. We will discover ways to create our communication as essentially resonant, reverberating, and alive.

We will play with the different layers and strata of our voice. Emitting and hearing sounds, singing, speaking, writing, allowing the movement of sound to move our bodies, create waves that express themselves in movements on paper, lines that sometimes become written words - spoken words emitting from the unspoken, from the unlived. We will live our creative essence . We will sing. We will allow the prayer that is our creative being.

This workshop will be facilitated by voice artists - Ruth Wieder Magan, Deborah Shayovitz and Avia Gurmanl.

Ruth Wieder Magan is best known for her pioneering work integrating sacred Hebrew texts into contemporary voice/body theatre. Her unique approach to the somatic and transcendental aspects of voice, text and spatial perception has redefined concepts of vocal performance. An important aspect of Ruth's vocal performances, or theatre of Voices, is the recreation of the female voice in Jewish song and text. In a tradition where the male voice is omnipotent, Ruth is making audible and available to women an authentic yet totally original female voice .She has twice been invited to represent Israel before
H.H. the Dalai Lama. Together with Theatre Company Jerusalem, she has created over 20 original works and has performed in national and international award winning venues .

Deborah Shayovitz born in Chile, is a diverse classical singer, choir facilitator and voice teacher who specialises in polyphonic vocal music and performs as a soloist and with ensembles all over the world. Avia Gurman is a interdisciplinary singer, teacher and facilitator of many diverse vocal styles and traditions. Her unique teachings draw upon Jewish mysticism, alternative theatre, and Werbeck-Steiner's method 'Uncovering the Voice', and touch the essence of voice, communication and performance.
A native of Israel, she has been living, studying, and working in Ireland for the past seven years. She is a recent graduate of the MA in Ritual Chant and Song from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick.
