The Roots of Feuding - Public Conference 2013
Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 1:00 PM - Friday, May 17, 2013 at 3:30 PM (EDT)
The Filson’s spring 2013 conference, “The Roots of Feuding,” will explore the roots of feud violence, the origins of the questionable stereotypes associated with the region, and ponder how outside sources contributed to the atmosphere of violence in Appalachia. According to popular culture and myth, the Appalachian region is filled with an assortment of characters. But is this region particularly disposed to bloodshed? Did violence in Appalachia differ in scope or type from elsewhere in the nation? How accurate are the popular stereotypes associated with the region? Did the geographical isolation of the area contribute to the flourishing feud violence? Join us as we learn how the perceptions of violence were fueled by outside pressures.
Reservations are required.
