Event description
Hospitals Gear Up for A New ICD-10 Code: Human Trafficking.

About this Event

Nearly 88 percent of sex trafficking survivors have contact with a health care system while being exploited yet are not being recognized by health care providers due to a lack of awareness and training. Two of the largest health systems in the United States are working to correct this knowledge gap and are helping other hospitals do the same.

Jennifer Cox, Medical Safe Haven Program Director, Dignity Health System, and Santhosh Paulus, MD, Northwell Health System, will lead a 4-hour workshop on how hospitals can sustain a culture of prevention and survivor care for victims of human trafficking. Topics include establishing hospital protocols and system-wide training, creating a "medical home" for survivors of human trafficking, forging community partnerships, and contributing to graduate medical education and research.

Target audience: Hospital administrators, physicians, nurses, and other health care leaders.

Check-in Begins at 11:15 AM.

Validated Parking in the VCU Medical Center Visitor's Parking Deck located at 550 N 12th St, Richmond, VA 23298.

* This workshop is part of the 2nd Annual Medical Symposium on Human Trafficking scheduled for February 4 - 8, 2020. For the complete list of class offerings, please visit ImPACT Virginia. The Symposium is free and open to the public.
