Event Details

Woman’s Rights like Rights of Blacks was an untiring effort to support women’s place in the United States. That effort was not limited to the right to vote, but included rights to a higher education, rights in marriage, rights to fair labor practices, rights to professional opportunity in addition to the enormous work required in getting the right for women to vote.  Join docent Rosemarie Smurzynski in this pre-fall Sunday walk through the cemetery to visit the lots of those who took part in this work, to hear their narratives and the broader story of this journey.   Among other stops we will visit the lot of Henry and Pauline Durant, natives of Watertown, who established Wellesley College.  Today, Wellesley College’s Center for Shaping a Better world has as its watchwords “A world that is good for women is good for everyone.” The activists of old could not agree more.
