The Rise of AI in Design. Are We Losing Creative Control?
Event Information
Description
Algorithms paint pictures, write books, transform image-styles or create entire movie trailers. But are they able to be truly creative?
Algorithms might design faster and more efficient, but as we all know, no two humans will have the same experience with an interaction or a design. We, humans, are also unpredictable, full of emotions and sometimes attracted to imperfection as well. Attributes an algorithm is likely unable to cover.
Still, with algorithms getting better and better there is the question of where the future spot for Designers will be in this Human-Algorithm environment. The talk will cover an introduction what it actually means to ‘be creative’, the current usage of algorithms in various forms of creativity before focusing on the challenges and limitations of Machine Learning in regards to creativity.
About the Speaker
Jan is a Senior Designer at Futurice in Munich and loves to explore what design and technology can do for humanity. Artificial intelligence is a big part of that exploration and is fascinating him for a couple of years. Especially the intersection of Machine Learning and creativity currently attracts a lot of his curiosity. Twitter: @JanKorsanke
