Event description

Description

About: When developers in Durham, NC, demolish an iconic tobacco auction house in the name of revitalization, they not only displace a community of artists, they also threaten the soul of the community. "The Rise and Fall of Liberty" examines the ebb and flow of Liberty Warehouse's 80-year lifespan, draws parallels with the evolution of downtown Durham, and reveals the often touching, interdependent relationship between the two. It also raises key questions about the tension between the drive for progress and the character of the city. RT: 52 minutes.

*Food and drink begin at 7PM, screening begins at 8:15PM when the sun goes down!

Hosts: Preservation Durham is proudly partnering with filmaker Carol Thomson to screen this film at the iconic Durham Athletic Park! All ticket proceeds will go to supporting the film and Preservation Durham's Preservation Equity Project!

Tickets: While tickets are free, this is a fundraiser, and so we strongly encourage you to make a donation based on what you can afford!

Seating: We will be viewing the film in the small "green" adjacent to the old concession booths - please bring a blanket or something to sit on!

Food and Drink: Fullsteam Brewery will offer delicious, local beer on tap; East Durham Pie Company will have delicious baked goods, and Pie Pushers will be slinging pizza.
